MoFe – Sightpath Medical’s mobile femtosecond laser suite for cataract surgery – is now used by more than 100 facilities in 30 states, according to a company news release. This milestone comes less than one year after Sightpath Medical launched MoFe to the industry. Sightpath Medical is the only provider of a manufacturer-approved mobile solution for laser-assisted cataract surgery, and MoFe is helping surgeons across the country achieve profitability in as few as 10 cases per month.
Sightpath Medical’s MoFe is offered on a per-procedure basis, eliminating the up-front capital investment and ongoing maintenance expenses that may make the purchase of a femtosecond laser for cataract surgery difficult to justify. In pioneering this service, Sightpath Medical spent two years configuring their patented air-ride and climate controlled transportation system to accommodate this laser and working with the manufacturer to validate the process ensuring the laser could be safely mobilized.
“We’re proud that, of the roughly 400 facilities offering laser assisted cataract surgery in the U.S., 100 are using MoFe,” said Joel Gaslin, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sightpath Medical. “This level of adoption confirms that surgeons feel working with Sightpath is a convenient and cost-effective way to offer state-of-the-art care in their communities.”
The MoFe suite incorporates everything a surgeon needs for a successful case day, including the femtosecond laser, manufacturer-certified technicians, surgical supplies, training and clinical support, a practice implementation guide and access to customizable practice marketing tools.
The Sightpath Medical implementation plan and marketing tools were a great help in launching the service and quickly getting the attention of patients,” said Daniel Bregman, MD, Eye Health Partners, who began offering MoFe in his Nashville, TN, practice in March. “With a business model that makes it possible to reach profitability in as few as ten cases per month, we’ve been extremely pleased with our results.”
Sightpath Medical has a rich, 20-year history of mobilizing sensitive ophthalmic equipment with its patented transportation systems. Its current fleet includes more than 200 femtosecond, Excimer, Wavescan, YAG and SLT lasers, which are operated by manufacturer-certified laser engineers and technicians. Sightpath Medical partners with more than 800 surgeons in 600 facilities and assists with more than 100,000 ophthalmic procedures each year.
